Just Recovery Conference 2021
A Just Recovery from Covid-19: How the Sustainable Development Goals can Guide Ireland’s Recovery
14 July 2021, 1pm to 3pm
Coalition 2030 is hosting a conference on the theme of ‘A Just Recovery from Covid-19: Using the Sustainable Development Goals to Guide Ireland’s Recovery’.
The coronavirus pandemic has turned the world upside down. It has exposed not only major weaknesses in Ireland’s economy and health services but also deep-seated inequalities. The most vulnerable people are being hit the hardest, both in Ireland and abroad. At the same time the Covid crisis has seriously jeopardised progress on the Sustainable Development Goals, however the impact of pandemic has also made their achievement all the more urgent and necessary.
As the Government faces the challenges posed by the pandemic and begins to look towards long-term recovery, the Coalition 2030 conference will explore the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals for a just recovery from Covid-19 that results in open, fair, equal and healthy societies, flourishing within the ecological limits of our one planet.
The Conference will feature keynote speakers and leading civil society voices covering the different dimensions of a just recovery. It will also conclude Coalition 2030’s Just Recovery Fortnight from late June until the 14th of July which will feature a series of activities from member organisations related to the Sustainable Development Goals and a Just Recovery.

The Conference will also address and respond to the theme of the UN High Level of Political Forum this year: "Sustainable and resilient recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic that promotes the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development: building an inclusive and effective path for the achievement of the 2030 Agenda in the context of the decade of action and delivery for sustainable development". You can find more about the UN High Level of Political Forum and reviews of SDG progress here.
The Conference will also feature 6 parallel sessions in which participants will have the opportunity to engage with different dimensions of just recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic and the role of the SDGs. This takes into account the 2020 “Shared Vision for a Just Recovery” - a joint statement endorsed by 14 national coalitions and 50+ organizations from all sectors of Irish civil society – which includes 6 principles for a fair and sustainable recovery from the social and economic shock of the Covid-19 pandemic.
